Diablo 4 Season 8 x Berserk Crossover Disappoints Players: Why Did The First Crossover Get Such Bad Feedback?

As early as when Diablo 4 developers announced the 2025 roadmap, the mysterious crossover of Season 8 made people excited. When they finally announced that they would cooperate with Berserk, it surprised and expected players. Many players are speculating on what form this IP cooperation will take?

However, the crossover content of Diablo 4 and Berserk is very disappointing. There is no new story line, no carefully made event content, and there are only a lot of new appearances that are used to induce players to consume.

Berserk

Diablo 4 Season 8 x Berserk Crossover Disappoints Players: Why Did The First Crossover Get Such Bad Feedback?

Many players of Diablo 4 may not have read this manga. Berserk is a manga created by the late Japanese manga artist Kentaro Miura, with the black swordsman Guts as the protagonist. The background of this story is also full of monsters, violence, blood and betrayal.

Guts obtained Brand of Sacrifice after being betrayed by Griffith. He needs to be on guard against the endless monsters chasing him at all times. And this man who wields Dragon Slayer sword to kill monsters has almost become synonymous with Berserker.

This dark fantasy work has many similarities with Diablo 4, but it is a pity that Diablo 4 does not seem to make good use of these elements.

Behelits are the new currency during this IP collaboration. Elite enemies can drop Behelits besides Diablo 4 Gold. You need about 400 Behelits to unlock all the free appearances, but you won’t experience any additional plots, just mechanically farming monsters.

As your level gets higher, you will encounter more elite enemies, so getting all the rewards doesn’t waste too much time, but the process is not fun at all.

Another point that makes players feel unhappy is that this time, all the appearances that players want are not free. Including Guts’s Berserker Armor, Griffith’s classic Hawk of Light Armor and his mount.

Although these skins and others are all 2800 Platinum, Platinum requires players to exchange for dollars, not gold. Unlocking all the cosmetics in this crossover takes about $150, which is twice the value of Vessel of Hatred.

In addition, the developers set all the appearances to be limited-time, which makes players who like these appearances feel anxious and ultimately impulse purchases. This IP cooperation method is not only disrespectful to Berserk, but also reflects that the production team of Diablo 4 is not attentive to this crossover and lacks creativity.

Diablo Immortal’s Berserk Crossover

It is somewhat ironic that Diablo Immortal also gets the opportunity to cooperate with Berserk, but does better than Diablo 4. As a mobile game, its cooperation content is obviously more attentive and interesting than Diablo 4.

Players can even participate in the most brutal battle in Berserk, Eclipse, in Diablo Immortal, and survive it like Guts. Diablo Immortal even added a boss fight with the undead Nosferatu Zodd for this collaboration, which is definitely something that fans can cheer about.

Diablo 4 could have done something similar. Players could have earned a Brand of Sacrifice during the event, which would have allowed a steady stream of monsters to appear from all over and attack players. Or recreate one or two classic battles from the comics.

And what did Diablo 4 do? They replaced gold with Behelits and added a couple of cosmetics with no attribute bonuses, and that’s probably all. No new dungeons, no new bosses.

Player Feedback

Players naturally couldn’t give a pleasant face to the crossover content announced by Diablo 4. Players’ complaints mainly focused on the emptiness of the content of this crossover, and the high value of pets and cosmetics.

They can’t even complain more, because this is all the crossover content between Diablo 4 and Berserk. Many players like the cosmetics of this crossover, but the boring crossover content made them give up the idea of unlocking cosmetics.

Diablo 4’s IP cooperation once again verified players’ speculation: the barren content on the 2025 roadmap represents the lack of creativity of this group of developers. They cannot provide players with bold and interesting new content. The so-called IP cooperation is just another opportunity to make money.

The linkage between Diablo 4 and Berserk would have been a wonderful start, but they have messed it up. Unless they can do something to remedy the situation, it will be difficult for players to have expectations for the next IP cooperation.
